Recently I saw these two backings at Dragonfly: Growing Tree and Connections Color Story. I wanted that tree backing immediately for an upcoming picnic blanket. The Connections Color Story was a less practical choice, but I absolutely adore it. I will gladly create a quilt just to use this backing! In fact, that sounds like a fun challenge, don’t you think?

Read MoreHere they are in all their glory - my quarter Log Cabin blocks with triple logs. When the width of the scraps sets the width of each log, a pleasant variation arises and the fabric is used most efficiently. My favorite block has a deliciously summer mood with that sunflower yellow and fresh aqua paired with plum.
Read MoreI LOVE it when a quilt is finally finished. It feels so good to witness the transformation of pretty patchwork into a three-dimensional, useful object. How lucky then that I am a longarm quilter! Not only do I now enjoy this stage of my own quilt-making (instead of dreading the quilting), but I get to live vicariously through the finishes of my clients.

Read MoreWhen paging through Uppercase magazine, I photographed spreads which particularly inspired me. This is one favorite by Margo Selby, which I immediately wanted sew. I love how the colors graduate subtly along the sharp stair-stepping stripes. The regular light and dark accents punctuate the design gorgeously.

With such a quilt each round of color builds on the one before. They interact with each other in a powerful and sometimes surprising way. Read MoreI do love how this quilt came out! The colors and patchwork make a lovely impression whether viewed from close up or from far off. With more distance the sunny yellow center absolutely glows. I love how the colors blend horizontally in both directions like the sunset reflecting on water.
