finished! Drummer Boy Dresden Quilt
I do love to start the week with a finished quilt! Now that we’re all moved in, I at last had full access to my stash to make the scrappy quilt back that this fun-loving scrap quilt deserved. May I present my Drummer Boy Dresden quilt!
What did I love most about this quilt? Working with scraps! This quarter dresden block allows you to group each set of five dresden blades as a little mini quilt with its own color story. That dynamic made it ideal for scrap fabric play! I know others have chosen the dresden blades completely at random. With the clean low volume background and dark quarter circles to ground all that wildness, you really can’t go wrong.

If you’d like to make your own, you can purchase the Drummer Boy Dresden quilt pattern and then use the sew-along links for extra tips along the way. This is the throw size quilt, which finishes 60” square. However, the pattern actually includes 5 quilt sizes from baby to king.
I used all types of scraps in this quilt, including multi-colored scraps, and particularly favored anything that was bright and saturated. For a similar look, try fabrics by Cotton & Steel and Ruby Star Society. Many of my low-volumes were purchased from Fenceline Fabrics, who still has several in stock!

For the quilt back, I used several long backing fabric scraps combined with Cotton + Steel fat quarters. And for the binding I found the perfect multi-color stripe that pulls it all together. Don’t stripes make perfect bindings?
This is my quilt-mobile for photography purposes. To take these photos, Brandon and I biked down the block - not much different than trekking out to the barn at our farmhouse in South Carolina to photograph my creations. I do find a bike basket full of quilt rather irresistible. Maybe this will be my new photo signature, haha.
