Elora's Flower Girl dress

Well, it’s finished!

This is the Violet Field Thread’s Chloe Dress pattern, sewn with a knee-length chiffon skirt and a madeira eyelet bodice. I layered white chiffon over two layers of emerald chiffon, plus a polyester lining. The skirt is soft and moves beautifully. Elora is thrilled with how it feels!

When I needed to neatly cut 6.5 yards of chiffon, I did ask myself why-oh-why I had gotten myself into this mess. Though, actually, the cutting went off without a hitch. The gathering, on the other hand, was a hot mess. I needed to gather all three layers of chiffon simultaneously. Did I heed the the pattern instructing me to use a heavy weight gathering thread? Nope. Did I regret that? Yes, ma’am.

The finished dress is pretty, but if I were to do it again, I would actually sew the tried-and-true Geranium dress pattern instead. I find this Chloe bodice a bit boxy, and I also prefer that the Geranium has an empire waist. With the Chloe pattern the full, gathered skirt falls at the tummy, which isn’t the most flattering line.

The eyelet madeira bodice is what I like most about the dress. It’s so sweet and so perfect for a wedding. Now, if only we can keep it clean for most of Aria’s wedding day, haha!

Somehow that emerald green chiffon turned a powdery shade of blue-green when layered under white. I wonder how Aria will feel about the final look. Ah well, if she doesn’t like it, I don’t mind buying a store-bought flower girl’s dress instead. Whatever makes the bride happy.

The big day is happening August 2nd, in sweltering South Carolina. I recently found a white sheath dress with a single diagonal ruffle, which I will wear to the wedding or the rehearsal dinner. I am definitely not planing to sew my own dress, but I will enjoying dressing up for the event and promise to share some pictures.
