teeny tiny scrap play
Sometimes it’s best to stop everything and indulge in a little fabric play.
My teeny tiny crumb scraps beguiled me with their miniature, boxy ways. I arranged them on my cutting mat on a whim and decided this would make a fun quilt! Sort of a New Year’s confetti quilt, albeit not likely finished anytime soon, haha.
I have a generous cut of Art Gallery Fabric “Firefly Whisper” fabric from the Hello Bear collection. I say they should never stop printing this one. It has a perfect scale and gently random personality. I’ve imagined using it in so many ways and, indeed, it will make appearances in my Penny Sampler quilt too. Doesn’t it feel like confetti?

To get started, I cut width-of-fabric strips in my background fabric at 1/4” intervals. Then I sewed them along two sides of the scraps, to create some buffer. Next I puzzle the scraps together and add background fabric as needed. I’m trimming as 8.5” square blocks - sizable, but easy to manage.
Why, hello, first little block. I think I’m smitten! This will be a nice counter to the more structured paper piecing I’m doing lately.
