The Seedling Quilts is a collection of EPP and Applique quilt designs inspired by medicinal herbs, from Jodi Godfrey of Tales of Cloth. The quilts range from intricate and completely hand pieced to simple, machine pieced quilts with a little hand stitched flourish.

For my stop in the book tour, I chose to make the Lavender quilt. I was drawn to the fascinating triangle work and splashy negative space. Though the patchwork could be made via English paper piecing, I chose to machine piece for speed.

Working from a limited fabric stash, due to my move, I brought together two prints recently acquired from Purple Stitches, at Festival of Quilts, and misc. fabric scraps.

The true blue border and backing were pieced together from yardage on hand. Can you tell that I only have my green and blue solids unpacked? Haha. These backing prints were pulled from my Ice Cream Soda fabrics. Sometimes limitations are a healthy springboard for creativity.

Pine Needle quilting. Stitched in Color.jpg

This week, I quilted Lavender Blue on my longarm with a Pine Needle all-over texture. I wanted something angular, like the patchwork, but not too close in shape. Using a medium blue thread allows the blue border to remain deeply hued; whereas, a white thread would have drawn more attention to the quilting that I would have liked.

In a nod to the jade green accent triangles, I bound her in solid Kona Jade. As ever, I used my Zigzag binding method, which is so user-friendly, quick and extra secure! Tutorial right here.

Thanks, Jodi, for inviting me to be a part of your Seedling Quilt tour. It was a pleasure! At Tales of Cloth you can purchase a signed copy of the book, as well as kits for English paper piecing the projects within.

If you love EPP, be sure to pick up your copy of this book in time for the October quilt-along. The main quilt, Seedlings, is a sampler made up of each design featured in the book. The sampler is the focus of the quilt-along!

My Lavender Blue quilt is available now in my Handmades shop. Shipping is available worldwide, as shipping rates to the USA from the Netherlands are not as high as I expected. If your country is not set up to ship, just let me know to add it.

xoxo,

Rachel Hauser
