the Disappearing Nine Patch
The Disappearing Nine Patch is a patchwork classic. First you sew a simple 9-patch block (9 squares of the same size in a 3 x 3 layout). Then you cut the block twice on diagonal and mix/sew the resulting triangles back together to create an interesting effect. It’s one of those truly enduring, simple-genius ideas.
This month in the Comfort circle of do. Good Stitches, lead quilter Kety @KetyQuilts asked us to sew 9-patch blocks with floral fabrics of any color. We are to slice them and send them to her, so that she can mix the triangles from our 10-person quilting bee to create an eclectic Disappearing 9-Patch quilt.
What a good idea! Every quilter has random floral prints just waiting to be used, am I right? Here are some of my multi-color floral scraps hoping that it is their time to shine.
Ta da, the finished blocks. And that was fast! No surprise then that this month my bee mates are turning out blocks in record time. Way to go team!

I’m totally convinced that a flower-themed Disappearing Nine Patch quilt is a genius way to turn your random flower scraps into a pretty quilt a flash. Here are some blocks created by other bee members. Everyone has a different mix of colors and fabrics, but the result is reliably good.
