Rifle Paper Wall Pocket

It seems to be book hop season! Another one of my friends published a book this year with Lucky Spool Media. I’m delighted to be part of miss Svetlana Sotak’s book hop today for That Handmade Touch.

Svetlana’s style is clean and modern. She combines lots of black and white fabrics with pops of color to great effect. Her book offers sewing projects for the entire home and even for pets. It was pretty hard to choose my project for the hop.

After much debating, I zeroed in on the wall pocket because I knew I could use something like this to corral odds and ends at our new kitchen island. You know how everything ends up on an island? I think this will help me feel I’ve tidied up, even when I can’t actually put everything away.

I selected a fun Rifle Paper Fabrics print for the outer fabric and a metallic confetti print, also by Rifle Paper, for the lining.

I sewed the wall pocket yesterday in a few hours. It’s a pretty simple project using quilting cotton, plus medium weight interfacing and a leather handle. I didn’t even need a special needle. With a little ricrac trim along the top edge, it feels pretty perfect.

My new kitchen has cream and gray cabinets with black counters and white walls. I’m bringing in the color by displaying dishes and my own butterfly wall art. This print will add some whimsy. Besides, Rora likes those flamingos!

I’m glad to welcome you to this corner of our new home in The Netherlands. My sewing room is still a work in progress, but I do have the long arm machine up and running today. Hooray! I promise to show you more of our home when it’s ready.

Thanks, Svetlana, for inviting me on your book hop. I can see why That Handmade Touch is already a top seller. Congratulations!!!
