fresh new Nursery

Ok, I have pregnancy pictures!  But, before I share those, I'm going to soften you up with some nursery shots...

fresh new Nursery

First, the before.  After emptying Aria's room (she and Liam are sharing a room now, until the new baby is older), this is what we had.  Pink walls, original carpet, dark wood built-in shelf.  Not bad, but it gets better...

Ta da!  This is the new space!  My favorite thing, by far, are the new bamboo floors.  I'm a huge, HUGE fan of wood floors.  I love how they clean and how they look.  Getting wood floors into a bedroom has been on my wish list for awhile, but Brandon has been stubborn.   Babies are a great trump card.  Woohoo!

So I tried to go with a mostly blank canvas:  simple cream walls, natural wood crib, white dresser, rattan rocker.  The crib, dresser and rug are all great deals from Ikea.  I'll be adding color with fabric, fabric, fabric.  I'm making my own crib sheets, curtains, a pillow for the rocker, changing table covers, a closet curtain - basically anything I can think of to make, I'm making so that I can bring happy handpicked fabrics into this space.

nursery fabrics from Windham by Carolyn Gavin

My "theme" or general color concept is coming from this alphabet print by Carolyn Gavin for Windham Fabrics.  The first crib sheet I made is from the same collection, Petite Fleur.  I used this alphabet print in my Folksy Fall mosaic contest, which also serves as an inspiration board for this room.

And friends, I am having a ridiculously good time!  This is my third child, but I've never had the opportunity or skills to craft a space like this.  Hooray for Eleni.  She's already been so much fun.

from Ella!

My friend Ella sent this pretty quilt, our first handmade gift.  She used a liberated piecing pattern from Angled class and gorgeous Far Far Away fabrics, finished with hand quilting.  It's bright and girly front and back, just the way we like it.

Thanks, Ella!  We love it.

Looks beautiful in the space. Thanks, Ella!

So... pictures.

 5 months pregnant

This is me.  I'm pregnant.  Is it OK to hide behind a quilt?

so... definitely pregnant

Probably not.  So this is me, the full exposure version.  I'm 5 months pregnant and feeling great.  It still feels like I have plenty of time to prepare, in some ways, and almost no time in others!
