trust the Scrappiness

pondering blocks

Yesterday I caught up on my Purge quilt project, making a total of 9 blocks in one sitting.  It actually went pretty fast and was fun, which made me wonder if breaking up the quilt into smaller bite-sized chunks of 2-3 blocks at a time is really doing me any favors.  I so enjoy seeing progress, which is hard to glimpse in such small bites.

Anyhoo, today I got all my blocks out to admire.  Oh, this is such an important motivational ritual!  I could take or leave any one block (ok, mostly leave), so I've got to keep seeing the whole to remember that I'm going to like this quilt.

Actually, I think I'm really, really going to like this quilt.  It's just plain wild.  Here's to learning to trust real scrappiness!

some Questions:

1.  Will this "purge" put a dent in my unloved yardage or will I have much to destash?  Lots of my blocks so far are made from scraps, not so much from my unloved fabrics yardage.

2.  How big will this quilt be?  Right now it's a measly 32" x 40".  I'll need to pick up my pace to go throw sized by our final Purge link up on September 12th.  I think it wants to be throw sized (or a picnic quilt, if I really went to town).

3.  Will this quilt end up so loud and so chaotic that it effectively scares off bugs, birds, squirrels and other small mammals?

oh so much more fabric!

Only time will tell...
