Vintage Sweet
True Confession: I've been in a craft show slump. I just don't feel like I've been making enough lately and with the show less than a month away there have been moments of concern. Yes, concern. (That, and lack of concern when I've been caught running down homeschooling rabbit trails and blocking out the whole project. Oops.)
Now that I've completed a few things, I think I can focus on Craft Show again for about a week and half before I need to do any other projects. So, for starters... a run of covered journals. I had already decided to make more with those typewriters when I sent off the original Vintage Sweet covered journal as my first camper gift last week.
We all know playing with fabric is the fun part! So, naturally, I pair up new fabrics for each typewriter cover. Each of these covers needs a shot of text fabrics. I'm lucky to have a collection by now. If you like text, my best advice is start a collection. Really good text fabrics are few and far between. That, and they tend to go fast.
Have you seen the new Madrona Road by Violet Craft? It's a cool collection overall, but the text prints should not be missed. "Memoir" in charcoal or white are already marked sold out at many of my favorite fabric shops. I was happy to find them both at Pink Chalk Fabrics (and she still has some as of this typing). Not about to mess around, I bought yardage in both (1 yard in white and 2 in charcoal) and got right down to using them.
Besides the other cuts from Madrona Road I added these from left: Metro Circles, Essex yarn dyed black, Lizzy House Candy Corn, Sweetwater Reunion. The Reunion is another text print, and it's a really dark navy. Very cool. Happens to be on sale at Pink Chalk...
Ok, so where were we? The journals. Madrona Road worked into these two.
I used the Sweetwater Reunion text this way.
My favorite (predictably) is the most colorful.
And Vintage Sweet no. 5 features Seed Catalogue in black on white, a great example of a text print that became hard-to-find with remarkable speed.
Aaah, now that feels better. More "inventory" to add to my stockpile and more text prints thoroughly enjoyed. Sometimes I'm going to imagine a project using the other prints I picked up from Madrona Road. They have a bit of a fall flavor! right now I'll get back at a few other craft show projects in the works, including a background I can't wait to show you tomorrow!

Thing #2 - I'll be posting my own covered journal tutorial this August to walk you through my approach step by step, due to frequent and super-nice demand.
