Plotting in Pearl
Today is all about hand quilting. I've spent the morning editing a 10 minute hand quilting video for Handstitched Class and writing a Handstitched post. After this post, I'm off to the couch to do some real-life hand quilting! Would you like to see what I've been plotting in pearl?
My very last project for Handstitched Class is a baby-sized whole cloth quilt. I had such trouble deciding what to do! With a whole cloth quilt, the quilting is everything and the possibilities are endless. My first choice was to either find a fabric with a pattern I'd "follow" with my hand quilting OR create my own hand quilting pattern on a fabric. After quite a lot of back and forth, I settled on creating my own quilting pattern on a Kona solid. I guess I'm trying to rise to the challenge!
In order to work with my pearl cottons on hand, I first chose some thread colors (all from Anna Maria Horner's boxed set!) and then searched for a Kona solid that would coordinate. This is Kona Lake. It's a nice pale shade so that my quilting will show. Then I auditioned fabrics for the backing - not too busy, but not solid and something that would coordinate with my angular quilt design. Alexander Henry Heath just works for everything, doesn't it?
I'm working in scattered triangles. Totally enjoying the design and so glad I took the plunge. Crossing fingers I can finish this in the next couple of days!
