Meet the Gang!

Yes, please do!  Come and meet a friendly bunch of fabrics that's to become a Christmas-y quilt for our family!

my Christmas-y quilt

I've combined 7 cuts from Meet the Gang (shown mainly on the left) with 8 others from here and there.  Meet the Gang is a new collection of fabrics by Marisa of Creative Thursday for Andover.  I'd already been a fan of Marisa's wall art, so I started scheming a project soon after I heard her designs were making their way to fabric.  And remember how I was considering a Christmas quilt?  Yeah, well, I knew I wouldn't really make one unless I bought new fabric.  Isn't that how it goes sometimes?  The misc stuff I had was so definitely Christmas.  My vision for this quilt is to create something that has holiday flair but won't seem silly to keep out afterwards.

Meet the Gang!

Meet the Gang entirely fits the bill.  Many of the prints combine shades of green and red, with a pop of teal blue.  I love that the characters are wearing cozy winter clothes and long stripey hats.  So cute!  Meet the Gang is in stock at Whipstitch, The Intrepid Thread, Sew Modern and Hawthorne Threads.

I really like taking my favorites from a collection and adding in other prints from here and there to make something more unique.  It's easy, since you can start with the collection's color story, and it helps me make use of what I already have.  For starters, I wanted to up the teal quotient in this fabric mix.  To that end I mixed in Kona Everglade and a bit of teal stripe by Lizzy House.

Finding more reds and greens was easy.  This quilt was a great excuse to buy my favorite print from Countdown to Christmas.  The "Love Peace Joy" print in green fits perfectly!   And, I also like the way this Hugs & Kisses print by Anna Maria Horner brings together both the dark red and pale pinky shades in Meet the Gang.  In the next photo you can snatch a peak of that dark green Wallflower print by Amy Butler.  I love the richness and depth it brings!

Meet the Gang with Kaffe Fassett stripes

When putting this together online (yes, I do virtually all of my shopping online) I took a gamble on Kaffe Fassett woven stripes, shown here in the right corner.  I've been wanting to work with Fassett's stripes, but usually I'm afraid that his colors won't mix well with the fabrics in my stash.   Something about Marisa's use of color reminded me of Fassett, so I hunted these two down. I'm liking them all together.

other stashings

And while we're talking about fabrics, here are some others I just added. There's the last fat quarter of Dasha by Alexander Henry that I snagged from Contemporary Cloth, as well as a bunch of other tonal geometrics, which are the workhorses of my stash.

Well, now it's time to prewash!  I'm itching to cut into Meet the Gang!  Oh, and Deborah said I can share a coupon with you in case you want some too.  Use coupon THANKS2011 to receive 20% off of your entire purchase at Whipstitch now through Monday the 14th.  Psst... she has lots of good stuff.  Have fun!
