pretty, pretty Rainbow
This morning I woke up to a silent, empty home. My children left last night with grandparents for a week trip to visit far-away relations. So, can you bet I was at the sewing machine by 7:30 am - dressed, fed and ready to go!
Good morning! I started with completed quilts blocks...
and stitched away until the quilt top was pieced, framed and backing prepared. This Hide & Seek Spectrum baby quilt is a gift for my dear friend Bethany. It's a project from Anna Maria Horner's Handmade Beginnings. My, what a clear, easy-to-read pattern! The process has been a complete treat. I will definitely be making this gift again.
I chose natural linen for the border frame, rather than the muslin Anna used. My earthy friend will appreciate the texture, and I couldn't help but think that cream muslin borders would be a magnet for stains.
I'm really not sure if the funnest part was choosing the solids or finding the peek-a-boo prints in my stash. Curious about my fabrics? I promise I'll give you a list of colors and prints when I've completed the quilt.
So, now after an afternoon at work, I'm off to quilt and finish this baby. I'll be machine quilting it with a rainbow of threads, a la Ms. Horner. These pretty spools were all waiting for their day to shine in my thread collection (many passed down from my mama who never really sewed). I know, "tisk tisk," I'm using old thread. It's the utilitarian in me. Bethany would approve.
