Love in Tunnels

Another finish for good!

My friends in the Love circle, a charity quilting bee associated with do. Good Stitches, helped me make this colorful quilt.  10 months out of the year (we take June and December off) our circle works together to make a quilt to be donated to children through Wrap Them in Love.  We all make blocks and send them to the month's lead quilter.  This fall I led the group in making Tunnel blocks.

I love the opportunity to share a creative vision with others and the fun of seeing their interpretation of that vision brought to life block by block.   As usual, the blocks my bee mates sent came together wonderfully!  Because we sew from our own stash, the fabrics used take on a sort of scrappy-fun feel that just can't be replicated when you sew alone.   I'm so happy with the tunnel block concept!  It created a watercolor sort of quilt with all those colors spreading and softening like water rippling on a pond.

This morning South Carolina awakened to our first real frost.  There's ice on the ground mingling with the season's crop of fallen leaves.  We had such a long summer that even I am glad cold weather is finally here!

You can just make out the quilting on the quilt back.  I chose to echo the tunnel seams with simple, straight lines.  Simple and durable.  The fun is in the fabrics and colors on this one!

Bound in a red Denyse Schmidt stripe, with my staple zigzag stitch machine binding.

Now that I'm caught up on bee business I'm wide open to all those ideas that have been running around my head.  A quilt for baby.  A scrap quilt.  Our bed quilt.  A just-because snowflake quilt.  A new pin cushion!
