Circus Cabin: Week 3 Blocks + your Quilts
Have you visited the hashtag #CircusCabinQuilt? It is flowing with beautiful new images of your scrappy blocks. Way to go, you! There are also a fair number of overachievers (aka quilters-on-a-roll) who have already finished their quilt tops. We’re happy for you and inspired. Thanks to everyone for sharing your photos!

Week 3: sew 5 blocks
Like last week, our sew-along goal this week is to sew five Circus Cabin blocks. I’ll share my progress and then celebrate some of your finished quilt tops, before finishing off with prizes at the end of this post!
I usually sew blocks in batches of 2 or 3 at a time. Then I can sew lots of logs before getting up to press the seams, and repeat. It’s a bit more efficient and feels good to finish a few at a time.
Here are my five new blocks for week 3. These newbies are a bit on the plain side. Each one includes a simple print, which gives them a calmer feeling. I felt that my quilt could use some breathing room.
But even plain log cabin blocks have a cool, graphic personality when sewn with dark/light value contrast, and they combine so nicely with my showier blocks. I had fun arranging and rearranging them to try out different effects.
I wasn’t sure I would love a winter-themed version, but I am quite pleased with how this is coming out. The palette is different and good. Somehow a few extra finished blocks slipped in there, ahead of schedule. What can I say? It’s really hard to stop sewing this easy block.
Well, I put the brakes on at this point with three blocks left. Next week I’ll sew the last three blocks and join my quilt top together. Then week 5 is for the border, which takes a little more time than you’d expect. Totally worth it though! I’m looking forward to it.
