Color Catalog 12-patch quilt

Isn’t it so satisfying to turn little pieces of fabric into a big, beautiful quilt? I don’t think I’ll ever get over that. It’s time absolutely enjoyed and well spent!

Ta da! I’m pleased to finish a quilt straight from the pages of my book, The Quilter’s Field Guide to Color. I’ve transformed the Color Catalog palettes into charming 12-patch blocks. Each one a distinct palette; together a cozy quilt brimming with inspiration you can hold in your hands!

So fun! I love how it turned out. It looks absolutely like a scrap quilt, and I suppose it is. It’s a book-making scrap quilt!

I’m so glad I went for it and combined all the palettes in one work. The black/white star print ties things together subtly. With that soft blue Carolyn Friedlander sashing, the blocks float together like hot air balloons in the summer sky.

I’ve put together some happy, multi-colored prints to carry the party over onto the quilt back. Some favorites from Heather Ross and Anna Maria Horner show off here well.

For quilting I opted for a curved design called Clamshell Fans. It’s a nice foil to the squares and sashing, plus the texture is pleasantly soft. Pale gray thread blends well with all the colors.

I splurged with the binding! It’s a red and blue Heather Ross snail print. So, so sweet! This just seemed like the perfect way to use it, even if I’m sorry to see it go.
