a Collaborative project
Do you remember the Monument block tutorial, a free resource that I posted earlier this year? Since then my Monument string blocks have been hanging out on my peg board, along with some fantastic googly-eye creatures of Elora’s. Monument is a quilt I’m making together with members of the do. Good Stitches charity quilting bee, Comfort circle. The finished quilt will be donated to a good cause, perhaps to a refugee center here in The Netherlands.
Hurrah, all the blocks have arrived from my bee mates! It’s quite a pile and I’m excited to take in the collective effect.
I’ve arranged them today on my sewing room floor - - -
All the members of Comfort circle have sewn four Monument blocks from their own fabric stash. They’ve chosen fabrics based on my color requests, but of course there is variation in the particular tones used. I could mix up all the blocks, to minimize the visual impact of the different tones. Instead, I’ve decided to group similar blocks in order to create areas of the quilt with slightly different emphasis. I think that will create some interesting color movement.
I’ve decided to create a 56” square quilt, so I’ll need to make 10 more blocks myself. Time to muster those scraps!
p.s. Do you want to get involved with collaborative charity quilting? Sign up here for the do Good Stitches waiting list. There are circles in most parts of the world, and we do try to keep it local to minimize postage expenses. Right now, we have particular need for new Canadian volunteers!
