in Progress

I hope you had a lovely weekend!  Ours went by in a blur, so full it was of plans and decisions on our house project.  Yes, "project", because my plans to paint the house have spiraled into something bigger.

sad brown windows

It seems it's time to replace our windows, many of which are drafty with busted screens and a few of which are even broken (there's a break on the right side above).  The windows of our old, 1960 house (self-renovated when we bought it about 4 years ago) have brown casings instead of the now-common white ones.  That means they look brown on the outside too, which is really hampering my choice of paint color.  And boy does our house need painting!  (I'm not showing you "before" pictures until I have "after" ones.  It's too sad.)

Windows are super-costly, so it seems like we may as well replace the rusted iron porch as well, to give the outside a real chance of looking respectable.  Only a chance, mind you, because there is soooo much gardening I'd need to do to really make it shine.

In typical Rachel fashion, there is a deadline.  I want to enlarge our annual Halloween party to include Aria's entire 2nd grade class to give us a chance to get to know all those new families.  Wouldn't it be nice to have everything done in time for this outdoor event?  Totally.  Maybe not possible, but I can dream.

Ok, so where was I?   This is a sewing blog?

quilting

Yes, I hope you had a nice weekend.  I managed to quilt one of the Simply Stacked quilts in my catch-up queue.  I worked with straight lines, spaced about 3" apart, across this generous twin quilt.  How nice to experience happy quilting, without a single pucker.  It still looks so flat - I'm amazed!  I used 505 basting spray, Warm & Natural, a 3.5 stitch length and my Smarter Pfaff machine.  Maybe I got lucky?

Simply Stacked

I'll be finishing the binding by machine in a minute with my stress-free zigzag finish.  It's been love at first sight for me and zigzag binding.  Wouldn't ever go back.

always zigzag binding

It would be done already too, but this morning I was distracted by a little blog remodel.   If you click through you'll see I just changed some things in the sidebar.  Subtle improvements, but improvements... I hope.  A blog is always a work-in-progress!
