what comes next?

I find myself between planned projects, free to let my creativity wander. This June weather feels nothing like summer, and I am pining for the warmth we enjoyed in May. Let’s return to those Scrappy Summer Vibes, could we?

Here is where we left off in May with my triple log cabin creation. Well, not quite, since I have added a low volume frame to the now-joined blocks. It has loads of summer vibes! Perhaps adding to it could be an incantation of sorts? I’d like to conjure a scrappy medallion-style quilt while I am at it. The quartet of triple log cabins will make a nice quilt center.

On my design wall I’ve sketched out the first round - gray plus blocks with centers in the same bright shades as my log cabins. I find that my gray scraps are few and far between. That’s because I don’t often sew with gray. It can feel cool and detached to me. Good thing there’s always stash fabrics when scraps run dry.

But this time I do like how gray combines with these bright shades. It feels fresh! Summery!

My quilt has a subtle rectangle layout, which I will maintain in future rounds. Not that I have anything in mind yet.

What do you think comes next? Ideas welcome!
