It’s week three of the Ikat Quilt Sew-along. Since these big blocks have lots of pieces, at first it takes some focus to sew one together. Now that I’m halfway through with the quilt, I can cut and sew an Ikat block mostly on autopilot. Though I did sew a section upside down the other night! Haha, whoops. Nope, autopilot is definitely not a sure thing.

These are blocks 7 and 8, according to my quilt plan. First I prep the plus shape fabrics (Fabric E at the corners) and then the main block fabrics.

I’m loving this print! It’s from the Velvet fabric collection by Amy Sinibaldi, which immediately pulled at my heartstrings when it was released earlier this year. I would have been happy to make a Velvet quilt, but well, we can’t do that every time we fall in love with a collection. Thus I was super happy to find this Ink Vert print from Velvet at Fat Quarter Shop when I was shopping for Aria’s new Ikat quilt. It’s a gorgeous Jade shade, so saturated without feeling outright bright. Definitely a favorite!

I confess that these blocks are a bit too similar for my tastes. Although I am using a different print for each block, I get a strong sense of déjà vu each time I start a new one. I guess at another time it would feel restful and reassuring - that sense of repetition in color and form - but at the moment my main satisfaction is that Aria loves watching her quilt grow!

Time to pat myself on the back because I’ve met my week 3 goal. Hehe. Onwards!
