Well friends, it’s actually been a bit quiet in the quilting studio. With fall in full swing, I expected to see an uptick in quilting action by this point, but it remains rather still. Hmm, are we already hibernating for the holidays? Or, is it perhaps corona-related? A mystery.

I’ve taken the opportunity to refresh my digital quilting design library. Over the last few months, I purchased several new patterns for my customer quilts and my own. It’s super important to find the right quilting pattern for each quilt, so I often look beyond patterns already in my collection. Anyhoo, the patterns had not yet been added to my design library, so I’ve fixed that:

Cherry Blossom

Soft and yet modern enough for my Maple Farm quilt

Primrose

A more literal design that I sourced for that timeless Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt.

Hourglass + Chevron

I added these two patterns way back when I quilted After the Rain. These patterns work well for half rectangle blocks, but also serve as potential borders and even an all-over version of Chevron, which I’m itching to try.

Wind Swirls

Light and airy. It also feels a bit like a celebration. I used it for my baby Color Quest quilt.

Poinsettia + Doodle Tree

Do you have a holiday quilt in the works? I recently had the pleasure of quilting for Marcy @Bookish.crafter. She sent the most perfectly classic Christmas quilt all done up in solids. The backing fabric also hits the spot. I really fell in love and went on a search from some fresh new holiday quilting pattern ideas.

Aren’t those fun? Poinsettia is an open design that also combines classic and modern vibes, just like her quilt. Doodle Tree still offers open, light quilting, but with some whimsy. Marcy wanted a soft quilt, like so many of my customers, so I knew we should steer clear of tight designs like snowflakes.

Well, as you see, Marcy opted for the ever-classic, always-successful Continuous Eight. It does look lovely on her quilt! A good choice, Marcy, but I have to admit I really would like an excuse to add Poinsettia or Doodle Tree to my design catalog. Fingers crossed! After all, October and November are ideal months to finish a holiday quilt.
