cut glass
Today is another cloudy day in a string of days about two feet thick. I'm overdue to share Eleni's 7 month post, I know, but a virus has been keeping her as down as the weather. I'm hoping that we'll catch a short burst of sunshine sometime over this weekend to photograph a baby that's finally well, and that I can bring you her update soon.
Meanwhile, I'm taking a break from finishing my Pink Latte herringbone quilt to stitch and share a bee block for do. Good Stitches.
I'm using a tutorial from Jodi's Red Sky at Night series to the Cut Glass Dish block. It requires lots of half square triangles, so I followed Jodi's lead in making the units 4 at a time. This method starts with squares. You sew around the edges and cut the sewn squares on diagonal twice. Quick? Yes. The method does yield half square triangle units with bias edges and directionality issues, but that can be workable, especially if you're using non-directional fabrics.
Fortunately, my red fabric ( Wanderer by April Rhodes) is only subtly directional, so I don't feel it's a problem. My white fabric ( Doe Hatched by Carolyn Friedlander) is mirrored, so it doesn't show when it's flipped.
Over all, a successful block and such a pretty pattern! If I were more keen on making half square triangles, I would certainly aspire to a whole quilt of cut glass dishes!
p.s. Thanks for all your thoughts on quilting Tangential. Thinking through other's suggestions has a wonderful way of clarifying your own. I think I know which direction to go. Now I've only to actually get moving...
