Scrap Attack {String Fever}

Here we are, poised for another Scrap Attack Quilt-Along! This time we'll be getting creative with all those long, skinny fabric scraps that you've been squirreling away.  It's just the right time of year for String Fever, my friends. So, take that rotary cutter in hand and make a calculated attack.

What will you make?  A coin quilt? Classic string masterpiece?  Log cabin blocks? courthouse steps? improv?  Hmmmmm?  Well, the sky's the limit - especially since you just may settle on something of your own creation.  To participate, the only rules are

1. Your quilt is made mostly from strings or strips (long, thin cuts of fabric)
2. You finish the quilt top by end of May, 2013 (so, um, you could have started it in 2005.  just sayin...)

Your quilt can be any size you like.  Mini quilts count!  If you say it's finished, it's finished.

Color, color.

The Scrap Attack quilt along aims to inspire you to create from scraps whether in a scrappy, fabric explosion or with something more intentional in color and design.  However, this time notice you're not required to sew with scraps, but with strings. So, if you are a new quilter and don't have string scraps, you can cut strings from yardage or even buy some scraps to jump-start your project.  I know that those of us who have string scraps will want to use them.  That just comes naturally!

solid scrap pack from Pink Chalk Fabrics!

If you need a scrap infusion, they are actually an economical way to buy fabric.  Here are some options:

* Sew Love Fabrics (2 yards of 22" long scraps for $15)
* Fabricworm (2 yards of random-shaped scraps for $15, choose boy or girl colors)
* Pink Chalk Fabrics (3-3 1/2 yards of random-shaped solid-colored scraps for $13)

Each week, now through mid-May, I'll feature a string-based tutorial and/or inspiring string quilt, culminating in a Festival of Strings the last week of May.  The festival will be a link party for anyone who completes a string quilt top in 2013, with random door prizes from batting to fabric stacks to thread.  Yes, more fabric!  Oy.

You know you want to! How else are you ever gonna get a handle on those scraps?  They breed like rabbits, ya know.

Good morning patchwork
